My dad was on that team as a junior. The seniors voted to not play in a bowl. They wanted the sugar bowl and would have had it if Notre Dame had not changed their no bowl policy. ND accepted the sugar bowl.
All the players received a small trophy with a screw on it. My dad still has his.
One of the best defenses ever against the run. Held teams to an average of 36 yards rushing a game or something like that.
