I've read the opposite; particularly here in Houston where we just got rid of them about 2 years ago because of a similar situation - *proving* it was you driving the car.

I'm certainly in the minority here because I actually liked the cameras but can certainly understand the frustration people have with them although the argument is pretty diluted IMO.
