Toyota Camry
I put 185,000 mi. on a 2001 Camry second car that I got in '05 for $9k with 40,000 on the odometer. It still ran fine with 31mpg hwy. (4 cyl. is good enough on the highway) and had cold air/heat etc. when I gave it up. Changed the oil, tires, and replaced one front brake in ten years. Big enough for adults in the back seat and luggage/golf clubs in the trunk. The Carolla and Hondas are much smaller.
Volkswagen more expensive maintenance and parts.
