It's not the "original" Big Mac. When McDonald's started, the only patty size was a 10:1 (1.6 ounces). The Big Mac was and is just 2 of those patties. The QPC came out and is a 4:1 (4 ounces) patty.
The Angus burgers McDonald's had was a 3:1 patty (5.3 ounces).
For a limited time, McDonald's is now using a 6:1 patty (2.6 ounces) for the Grand Mac and the Big Mac, Jr. The Grand Mac is a traditional build with a bigger bun and patties. The Jr is one of the new bigger patties without the 3rd piece of bread. As of now it's only around for a limited time. If successful I could see it coming back as either a permanent option or a seasonal option.
I work in advertising and marketing and McD's is a client.
