I've lived there too and mostly agree. They do tend to be more abrupt in their speech than most Americans are used to. Other than that they're pretty fun loving in general.

And to the guy that said beer drinking is a southern Germany thing: They pound beer all over Germany. They just pound more beer in the South. They like their wine too.

Once you get to know Russians they are great people with good senses of humor who are less boisterous than Americans. They do have a stereotype of Americans as overly friendly and boisterous.

I knew one Russian guy who can be described as a misanthrope but he was pretty smart and not a jerk. Many Russians are just a little bit more reserved around foreigners but if you get to know them they are pretty cool. They are very generous to their friends.
