Well, it's the truth.

If the Redskins get the Cardinals into a 3rd down situation after using their timeout before the 2-minute warning, there is probably anywhere from 1:57-2:00 left on the clock (wherever it stops for the 2-minute warning). Depending on how long the 2nd down play takes.

If they don't take the timeout before 2nd down, the clock won't stop until after they get the timeout called following the next play. There wouldn't be as much time left.

The fact that the Redskins gave up a long TD the next play has nothing to do with anything.

Oh cool. Im not watching the game and since OP didnt mention any details, I figured they had the ball, so I was a bit intrigued by your phrasing because I assumed the other team had the ball.
