It's still home. Katrina did a number on us worse than anywhere else that felt her. The lower end was basically obliterated. It's slowly starting to come back after more than a decade later, but now Chevron is selling of it's shelf operations and focusing on deep water operations out of Fourchon so that's a big loss.

You know what's amazing? The people down there are so strong and down to earth people. Katrina hit there with her strongest winds to touch land and a 20+ feet storm surge and maybe a half a dozen people died with almost total destruction. I know population density is nowhere near the same as in Orleans, but I know a bunch of people who stayed down there and survived holding on to power lines or anything else they could grab. If that same thing happened in the city, there would have been 10k minimum dead.

I only know of a few that road it out.
I lived in Buras for 29 years and could barely recognize it the day after Katrina.
