Texas defines it as an object that expels a projectile propelled by an explosive or incendiary substance.
Thus air rifles are not firearms here
A hair spray potato gun however, is in fact a firearm.
I would assume LA is similar but you would want to make sure.

Also TX and many other states have been altering laws recently to allow CHL/LTC/or CCL or whatever it is called in that respective state to carry their sidearm despite the game laws.
