Several great grandparents went over as doctors, but one of my great grandfathers lied about his age in order to go over. He was 15 when he signed up and ended up getting gassed. He fought in the second battle of the Somme (I think the offensive) and a couple of others. My dad still has his medals at home. After the war my grandmother said he drank and smoked heavily and wouldn't talk about what he saw over there. The guy had to have gone through an unimaginable hell.
