Get a good case, use your own locks and notify the baggage claim you have a weapon when you check your bag.
Ammo is cheaper to buy when you get there less hassle and one less case to deal with.
Birds will need to be frozen. I just put them in my checked bag inside a garbage bag so incase of any sweating.
Trophy birds will need to mounted and shipped down to you.
I hunt in Kansas and SD often and I have never had an issue.
I can't say enough how important a good case is, I use a pelican. I went cheap the first couple of times and my cases did not fair well. If I would have spent the money on a pelican first it would have been cheaper.
