Which kill more people annually?
A. Stupid gun owners
B. Stupid automobile owners
Well there were 33,000 gun deaths in 2013 (most recent stat available), compared to 37,200 automobile deaths in 2015, and 32,400 in 2014.

Eta, that stat is for the first six months of 2015, adjusted for extrapolation.

How many of those 33,000 gun deaths were self inflicted injuries resulting from suicide?

Firearm—In 2013, 33,636 persons died from firearm injuries in the United States (Tables 18 and 19), accounting for 17.4% of all injury deaths in that year. The age-adjusted death rate from firearm injuries (all intents) did not change significantly in 2013 from 2012. The two major component causes of firearm injury deaths in 2013 were suicide (63.0%) and homicide (33.3%). The age-adjusted death rate for firearm homicide decreased 5.3%, from 3.8 in 2012 to 3.6 in 2013. The rate for firearm suicide did not change significantly.

so 100-63 = 37
.37 x 33636 = 12,445 non suicide deaths by firearm in 2013
quote:
In 2013, motor-vehicle traffic-related injuries resulted in 33,804 deaths, accounting for 17.5% of all injury deaths (Table 18). The age-adjusted death rate for these injuries decreased significantly, 3.7%, from 10.9 per 100,000 standard population in 2012 to 10.5 in 2013.
motor vehicle suicide is VERY rare. Assuming even a generous 5% motor vehicle death rate related to suicide, that means at least 32,195 died of non suicide related motor vehicle causes.
32,195 > 12,445
and that is not even looking into the word "owners" where many of the homicide deaths with firearms are from persons already illegally possessing a weapon and not legal owners.
