Saltmarsh Skiff might be in your price range. They have a 14 and a 16 ft. Basically a Fiberglass jon with a better layout and ride. 14 ft base hull I think is around $3500. Some used ones are starting to pop up. Just saw one in Houston area for sale.

A friend of mine had one of Ankona's boats. His is pretty cool but he's fixed a ton of shite that Ankona cut corners on when they built it. He was unsuccessful in getting them to acknowledge any of the issues.
