Thinking about traveling to Auburn for the football game in September. Where is the best place to stay? How is the tailgate and game experience experience on gameday?

Look at staying at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa in downtown Montgomery. I think that is usually where the team stays. It's about a 40-45 minute drive to Auburn. It's a very nice Marriott property.

I stayed in Montgomery when I went a few years back...worked out well, as I like to get out if town after away games. The tailgating scene is pretty fun, but don't expect to have your own setup unless you can get there to mark your spot a few days early.

Opelika or Columbus, Ga are other options as well, although Opelika is basically Auburn.

I went our last game and there and I was not impressed with tailgate atmosphere. I thought the campus was not very nice and not much to do around there. The actual game atmosphere is good though they are passionate fans so that was cool to be a part of. I wouldn't go again though, would much rather go to Florida or Bama again.

I usually stay at the Hampton Inn in Columbus, GA.
