OP, if you get called into HR, and he files a complaint against you, tell them you are filing one against him also. I'm sure you have several witnesses who heard his racist remark.
If those twats in HR want to make a big deal of this, and potentially have you fired, you tell them in no uncertain terms that you will file a lawsuit against them for wrongful termination and discrimination.
