I have a question. I grew up in SWLA and would like to know the history behind Mardi Gras throws and throws at parades in New Orleans in general?
Growing up as a kid in SWLA, parades throughout the year were a good chance to stock up on candy, the most coveted throw in my eyes back then.
Why don't any parades at any time of the year in New Orleans throw candy? Is this just a SWLA thing?
I never saw the big deal in catching coconuts, or women's heels. Most of these items will just collect dust. Cups and candy are useful and have always been my favorite.
Any insight on this? not really bashing the way Nola does its parades, I just was shocked to see no candy whenever I went to my first parade as a Nola resident.
