It looks like Leaveing today (couldnt get the Link to paste)
@Tiger_Rag Story:
There’s been a shakeup of Paul Mainieri’s coaching staff.
Recently hired as Lamar’s next head coach, LSU assistant Will Davis is leaving the program immediately to join Jim Gilligan’s staff as a coach in waiting before taking over the program at season’s end.
Mainieri confirmed to Tiger Rag that Coordinator of Baseball Ops. Nolan Cain will be replacing Davis on the staff. He’ll be responsible for handling all of Davis’ on-field duties, including coaching third base and working with LSU’s catchers, outfielders and base runners.
Cain, 30, has been on Mainieri’s staff in that administrative capacity for two years. Before that he was a reliever on LSU’s 2009 national championship team.
"People think of Nolan as an outstanding relief pitcher on that team,” Mainieri said, "but what most don’t know is that right through high school he was a catcher and a hitter, so he’s got a thorough knowledge of the game. The fact that he played in this program is important to me on a number of levels.”
For one, having lived it, Cain is already familiar with Mainieri’s coaching style and what he looks for in a player.
Secondly, Mainieri said his "unique perspective” of having played at LSU makes him an ideal fit for the off-field aspects of the job: recruiting, running LSU’s various camps and acting as a liaison between the staff and the booster club.
"He’s just got every quality I look for in a coach,” Mainieri said of Cain. "I think he’s going to be a rising star in the coaching profession.”
While nothing is official, a source told Tiger Rag that former Tiger standout Micah Gibbs is the leading candidate to replace Cain as coordinator of baseball ops. An official decision isn’t expected until early next month.
