Monday morning I worked my way back into the spot the woodies were wanting to be in. I shot two with a single shell and both crumpled and fell like rocks out of the air. I heard them splash down as I turned to follow other ducks departing. The grass/weeds I was in were so thick I could hardly wade and the water was above my waist. I searched for 30 min for those two birds. Never found either.

woodies are the worst about the evasive death dive if the hit the water alive in my experience.

Yup, and green wing teal are a close second.

Watched one crumple, hit the water, immediately dive and then saw it swim 25+ yards underwater (the water was fairly shallow and very clear). It popped up in the middle of my teal decoys and swam around like nothing happened until I rolled it on the water. Just unbelievable what they can withstand sometimes.
