There was no squeeze to Les Miles in his hiring of the DC. The DC search was all Les Miles.

There were reports that we ended up with Steele instead of Smart or others because Alleva wouldn't allow Miles to offer enough money or years. Think about it. If Alleva was giving Les a year to right the ship or re-visit his job status, why would he go all in for a hire he might have to turn around and buy out? Steele doesn't make as much as Chavis, and if memory serves, he took a 2 year deal, rather than the 3 that Chavis wanted. That will be easier to buy out, and if Steele gets another decent position coach job (almost assured due to his recruiting prowess), it would be next to nothing.
