Don't forget you have to factor the shipping into the per round cost. That American Eagle $9.99 for 20 turns into probably $18 if you're just getting one box. Ammo isnt shipping friendly, unless you can hold out for free shipping deals. Not to mention, some people were talking about shooting 300-400 yards, I doubt the cheap ammo is consistent enough for that.
OP, I think you knew the answer before you asked. Go .308 platform.
