Cell Phones started to become mainstream when I was in high school. No smart phones, but Nokias and Razrs.

I had a teacher who had a box duct taped to the window outside. If he caught someone with their phone he would confiscate it and put it in the box. The box was outside of the classroom so if it rained or anything it would have gotten wet.

He would keep the phones in the boxes all day until school was over. Had to go by after school to get it, so you were SOL if you played a sport. In that case you had to get it in the morning.

Never got a phone taken up but he did take my Game Boy Advance and put it in the box.

Wish more teachers did this. Confiscation and no, you don't get it after the class is over, but until school is over.

In many public schools there are many students roaming halls. That box method would not work due to theft.
