that's not really what i'm saying. it's not about who could beat who.

i'm sure you're familiar with the "rare, first, or fricked" explanations. if we find intelligent life so close to us (relatively speaking of course), it's far more likely that it's because life isn't as special as we thought, and not because we've happened upon the only other intelligent life in the galaxy. what an amazing, but also nearly improbable coincidence. since the improbable is much less likely, it suggests we're both still on our way to the great filter.
