What is your budget? Where will you hunt? Thick woods, marsh, or bean fields/pipelines? A good starting point is to decide on the action type and caliber. Are you a rightie or a leftie? Many great options out there from $350 on up. Modern rifles are good values now.

Sorry, missed your 30.06 choice. A great versatile round with probably the most loadings available.
