I grew up in Cypress (or as it was called it then before they adopted the trendy name "Cypress": Katy north of I-10/Bear Creek/Addicks.
It was nice back before all the farms were bought up around the turn of the century and turned into mega-super-cheap tract housing. Back when Gerland's was the only grocery store and Copperfield was for "rich people".
It's fricking awful now.
I'm sure peripheral neighborhoods like Blackhorse are still nice, and Bridgeland probably too, but everything else west of Eldridge, north of 10, south of 290 and east of 99 is a new thing I call a "suburban ghetto".
When gentrification occured at the same time that the government started pushing what would otherwise be Project-Dwellers into really cheap houses that could only be built way far out on what had been empty land, you ended up with what had been an inner-city problem for Houston and, formerly in many cases, New Orleans, tossed out into Cypress and what few good neighborhoods there had been were summarily surrounded by ghettos and ruined. Ironically, as a lot of inner-city neighborhoods became much nicer and whites moved back in, formely nice suburbs like greater "Cypress" got trashed.

Male suspect, dark complected, 5'10'', white tshirt red shorts, maroon/dark red fleet side ford ranger pickup
walked up behind the officer and shot him once in the head. more shots fired as he lay on the ground.
officers previous stop was at an accident.

Section 8 is so awesome.

We have a home in Lakemont. The entire area is ghetto now. It started about two years after moving there back in 2005. Yeah the area looks nice but as an example one of the houses was raided for hosting a cock fighting ring.
I maybe banned for saying this but the area is mostly black and Hispanic now which has brought with it certain elements and those elements are slowly creeping into the nicer parts of Katy. Drive up and down mason road to see what I mean.
Cypress is definitely suburban ghetto like another poster mentioned. Section 8 housing and the push to force neighborhoods to diversify is killing many nice neighborhoods.
I just shake my head every time I got back to Houston now.
