It all has to do with Spielberg and Lucas' friendship. When the two were starting out, they made a pact that whichever of their respective science fiction films (Spielberg with Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Lucas's Star Wars) proved to be more successful, than the other individual would receive 1% of picture's gross revenue.

Obviously, Lucas' film was more successful and therefore Spielberg subsequently cashed in on the success of Star Wars despite no involvement.

The Easter eggs are merely homages made on behalf of Spielberg as tribute to his good friend.

Lucas was also part of the Indiana Jones franchise.

um no. Lucas created Indiana Jones.

Dr. Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones, Jr.,[10] often shortened to "Indy", is the title character of the Indiana Jones franchise. George Lucas created the character in homage to the action heroes of 1930s film serials.

It wasn't a bet. The entire pack, which included several filmmakers, agreed to give one another a point on whatever film they made.

In the end, it was John Milius who laughed all the way to the bank.
