re: Tipping is out of control in America - can we abolish it?

I've always felt if you can't afford to tip 15-20% for good service , you can't afford to eat there.

That said , I have no problem leaving nothing for shitty service. That was almost the case last night but the girl explained herself ( in charge of the floor, had to help the other servers with computer problem), admitted and apologized for terrible service , proceeded to knock 10% off of the bill. In return she still wound up with roughly 15%.
