illegally obtained but legally sold guns

This is a nonsensical statement.

So what does it mean if the gun was legally sold from a distributer to a buyer, and later the gun was stolen prior to sale on the black market?

I guess t was illegally obtained from someone who illegally obtained a legally sold gun?

Regardless, even if all guns were outlawed tomorrow there would still be plenty of guns on the black market.

if that weapon was never legally sold, how would it end up in the criminals hands?

Lol, Most policies aren't enacted with the hope that change will be at the snap of ones fingers. What would be the point of having the word 'Progress' if everyone thought this way? Not sure why this is here.

Not really. The guns have to come from somewhere. The origins had to be legal before they were illegal. I don't think manufacturers have complete black market processes in the US.

That's a possible scenario.

This is true. It would be a long time and a lot of work reversing what is already done if it is even possible. Assuming it needs to be done in the first place, which I'm not convinced. It's worth thinking about though.
