I was always the opposite. I found Colbert funny in small doses but it was too much a case of the same show every night. Which isn't really Colbert's fault; it was just a limitation caused by the format. He was a parody of Billo so he had to stay in character.

Stewart's format allowed for more variety. He could make fun of the Republicans on Monday night, CNN on Tuesday night, and pop culture on Wednesday night.

I don't understand how someone can describe Jon Stewart as smug and know what smug means. Sean Hannity is smug. Stewart's style is very much goofy and self-deprecating.
