Brogueing is the decorative work on shoes, true, but brogues are also a name of the shoe with brogueing. He probably could have said, "Oxfords, no brogueing," or "Oxfords, not wingtips or captoes or split toes," but it wouldn't have been as snappy.

Loved the movie, but the girlfriend at the time didn't like it. She was also older than me and sometimes could make things just not fun with how mature she tried to act. So since then when I hear people don't like it then I think they're genuinely just not fun or just have terrible lives and can't enjoy a good laugh.

Exactly, most people I assume wouldn't think twice about it, so it really isnt that big of a deal, just something that stuck with me when he said it.
