I think a lot of people get confused when they see people putting Simmons listed at 4. When most say that it doesn't mean he won't have the ball in his hands on the perimeter. It means he will guard the opposing players 4 on defense. That doesn't mean he will play back to the basket and mid range jumpers only.

On defense you have to react to the offense so you basically name players based off what they will guard. On offense, we can use our 4 to be the main ball handler if we want.
