They weren't harassing him. He went to the sub and outed himself and bitched and complained about them posting pictures from imgur...a public site. And then he complained and it got shut down. They were just looking for a reason and they finally got one.

They were posting pictures on imgur and publishing them to the imgur community. If they had just hosted the pictures on imgur, there wouldn't have been a problem, but they were posting them to the imgur community which has fairly strict rules about controversial images, and so they were being deleted in accordance with the policy. Instead of just saying, "Oh yeah, sorry we're such dumbasses that we couldn't figure out the difference between hosting and image and publishing an image to the imgur community." they just freaked out even more and kept harassing the guy both on and off of reddit.

Ellen Pao or no Ellen Pao, the subreddit would have been banned for that. It's pretty telling that, when a man was the CEO of reddit, no one even knew who he was even when they made unpopular decisions such as banning certain subreddits, etc. But the same shite happens when there is a female interim CEO and suddenly she is 100% personally responsible for destroying reddit because of some perceived feminist agenda when she really wasn't doing anything different than the last guy.
