It's really unfair to compare the two. The Terminator was made on a paper thin budget and became the surprise hit of 1984. Terminator 2 was the most expensive movie ever made at that time and was also one of the most anticipated films of the 1991 summer movie season. You also have to consider they are almost two different genres. The Terminator is more of a sci-fi/horror/slasher film where as Terminator 2 is a sci-fi/action/adventure summer tentpole film.

I have to pretty much agree with this...
however, I must say that I mentioned to my wife when I turned in on SYFY the other night and watched T2 for about ten minutes, that I can still remember being 11 years old and my dad took me to see this at a movie theater in Houston that had a balcony.
It still stands as one of the most memorable movie experiences of my life, because being 11 I thought the theater was sooo cool and the movie was mind blowing awesome and still feel that way to this day when I turn it on at 35
