Just to clarify--floaters that appear and DO NOT go away are the non-threatening type. It's when you notice the sudden appearance of several new floaters that you should see an ophthalmologist about a possible detached retina. That shite obviously is very serious.

I had minor ones for several years. About a year ago, all of sudden, I was outside and it was like the floodgates opened. At first, I thought I was seeing a bunch of gnats or bugs of some kind. It was really scary. Went to the ophthalmologist right away. He sent me to a Retina specialist and I did have a partial detachment of the Retina, which he fixed with laser surgery. Just went back for a 6 month check up and everything looks good, but now I have to see the Retina doctor at least once a year.
