Its impossible to not have the conversation because every generation wants to say that their star player was the greatest ever. Bird/Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Lebron....it's always been there, now you just have media and and the internet at the drop of a dime ready to tell you why their player is the GOAT.

It's the same with the Ali, Tyson, Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr.

But I agree, you are right, it doesn't really matter. That is why I have stopped hating on Lebron as much as I once did, mainly because I can step back and appreciate that he is the best player in the world by a long shot, and just enjoy watching him play. It won't last forever. Just like MJ, his career seemed to go quick. Kobe too.
