1. Learn the subway system. It's rather easy and a week pass is around $31.
2. Brooklyn Promenade. Awesome views of downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights has some amazing brownstones.
3. Times Square - see it at night and then mark it off your list.
4. Take in a Broadway show.
5. Central Park. A wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle.
6. FAO Schwartz Toy Store. It's closing in the future so you should see it now. Who buys all those expensive toys anyway.
7. St Patrick's Cathedral.
8. Stop in Trump Tower and simply check out the lobby.
9. Frisk Collection Museum.
10. Staten Island Ferry. Plan your trip late afternoon and go right past the Statue of Liberty. Once on Staten Island, stroll down to the right and see the minor league baseball park and the 9/11 Postcards tribute to the residents of Staten Island lost that day. Then, ride the ferry back at night to see the lights of downtown Manhattan.
11. Chinatown.
12. Meatpacking district for great food and nightlife.
13. Ground Zero. Also, stop by the small church opposite the site. It has a lot of historical perspective on the events of 9/11 and has a lot of exhibits as it served as the first main point of the response and recovery efforts.
14. Pizza by the slice. Nothing better than NYC pizza. Caution against the celebrity pizza joints. The best ones are the not so famous ones.
15. Yankee Stadium. Love them or hate them it is still a must see.
16. Grand Central Terminal. A little hint is knowing the history of the terminal before going. It will make the trip there more enjoyable.
17. Crysler Building. Art Deco and wonderful.
18. Empire State Building. Go there, look up, and then go to the Top of the Rock for the best views.
19. Don't be afraid to ask locals. The locals are nice and always eager to help you if you need advice on subways, directions, etc.
20. Ferrara's in Little Italy ( or what's left of Little Italy anyway).
21. Most of all, enjoy your time in a great city.
