Repairs are up to you. We have a saying in the business- "the squeaky wheel gets greased" meaning if you bitch enough- the insurance company will do whatever you want.
As far as the repair your talking about, it's actually pretty simple. Undo the body mounts and engine mounts and you use a two post lift to pull everything off the frame. You roll it out from under the body and swap everything to the new frame.
There are guidelines for how we repair something set by ICAR and the vehicle manufacturer. If the shop or insurance is saying change, it probably needs it. $10k seems pretty cheap for a frame replacement though. Are they using a used or new frame? Sounds like it might even be a frame section for that price.
