Are they saying that extreme, grand theft auto style driving with no regard for safety or human life is what killed the guy? Only the driver is getting hit with the "depraved heart" charges correct?

I didn't listen to the press conference, just read it on here.

Yes. The lone murder charge. Cuffed and shackled but not restrained, then a wild ride to bang him around the inside of the van. Apparently, this is a pretty common practice in some cities.

Three of the five others were charged with manslaughter. Maybe leaving open the possibility that injuries during the arrest contributed to his death. Most of the charges, though, stem from the arrest being deemed unlawful. I haven't been able to figure out which officers, if any, accompanied the van. That might explain why three others were charged with manslaughter.
