When I was a kid, we flew to AK for a family vacation and rented an RV for what seemed like a whole month (probably only 7-10 days). In hindsight, I probably should have been just a little older to really appreciate it, but I still have some pretty cool memories from glaciers, Denali, king salmon fishing, etc.
It seemed like a cool idea for us to be able to travel a bunch in a short amount of time and keep the kids fairly happy. We weren't staying in cities much of the time anyway, so the RV was a decent option.
