First, I got caught up on this series in just a few days of blasting through the episodes. Vikings is every bit as good as Game of Thrones albeit with a much smaller budget.
Athelstan obviously made a lasting impression on Ragnar's life. Ragnar is objective enough about his own religion to recognize that the Christians have a more civilized, more advanced and a more peaceful society. Ragnar simply wants a better future for his people with land to farm and a peaceful co-existence. To his credit, Ragnar knows his dear friend, Athelstan, was murdered and probably knows who did it but the writers have not pursued a vendetta by Ragnar. Ragnar believes he has terminal internal injuries and he merely wants to reunite with his dear friend, Athelstan, in the afterlife. Soon it will be Rollo and Ragnar's son, Bjorn, who will be leading the Vikings. Oh, and I am in love with Lagertha. That scene when Ragnar woke up with a huge smile on his face with Aslaug and Lagertha in bed with him was my favorite scene thus far in the series. This show is fricking epic good. cheers:

So they are saying that Aethelstan is the father of Alfred the Great. That's a nice little twist although inaccurate.
If anyone likes historical fiction check out Bernard Cornwell's "The Warrior Chronicles" series.

Pump the brakes. I love Vikings but come on.
And Rollo will be splitting that French princess in half next week
