The same can be said with New Orleans. Within 1,000 miles of New Orleans you have the following Division 1 programs:

LSU
Alabama
Georgia
Florida
Florida State
Auburn
Tennessee
Arkansas
South Carolina
Oklahoma
Texas
Texas A&M
Clemson
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Missouri
Kentucky
Ohio State
TCU
SMU
Notre Dame

Etc.......

You would just think that these two "warm and sunny" and "fun/party" schools could attract recruits more so than a lot. I get the transplant theory though. That's a good one.

The OP was specifically citing the recruitment of California and how it is bizarre that there is not enough talent to go around. Keep in mind that the majority of California recruits are produced in one of three major metro areas: San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco/Oakland.

It's not like New Orleans is the only significant metropolis in this region when it comes to producing elite talent. You also have Houston, Dallas, Mobile, Atlanta, Memphis, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando, St. Louis, etc.

You will also notice that the majority of the schools you chose to list have obtained some form of elite success during their respective histories.
