She attempted to file her federal income tax last night on turbo tax. When she submitted the return, it was rejected with the message: "A return has previously been submitted to the IRS using this social security number." We already have been given instructions, such as : She has to make a report to the sheriff's office in the morning, meet with the fraud division of the IRS at Citi Place in a few days once the sheriff's report is completed. She's already contacted the SS administration, and her bank, and credit card service. Can anyone think of anything we might be forgetting?
Happened to me 3 years ago. Have her start the process with the IRS ASAP. They are slow as molasses and don't keep you informed well at all. Took me about a year to get my return and get it sorted out. She will now be issued a pin for every year in the future.
Sucks man.
