Using a long HDMI cord from your laptop/desktop also works, however I prefer the more stable and ease of the devices that just hook into an HDMI spot and I never have to move or fiddle with.
Also another drawback with the HDMI is if your computer is not all that and you are trying to use a huge TV monitor to stream content from can be very draining on your CPU.
There are two options when you use HDMI cord.. one you can "extend" and use the tv you are hooking up as a 2nd monitor (best option) Then you just drag the browser over towards it and maximize to full screen..
or you can multiply (dual) monitor where it literally mirrors everything you see on your computer monitor.
