The successful ones that I know did this:
Went to a good College (and joined ROTC)
Graduated college and went to OCS (Navy/Air Force)
Retired with full military benefits and started flying for FedEx/UPS and had another well paying job on the side.
OT Ballers go straight to the Air Force Academy or Annapolis right out of high school.
