I disagree - Duke and Abacab still had vestiges of the 4 and 5-man eras, more progressive or art rock sensibilities, although tempered by Collins' catchy hooks. Genesis (1983) probably marked the final step into a shallower, but more commercial sound with - very little of the old sound or spirit at that point.
I like Peter Gabriel, but my favorite of his was Solsbury Hill - the song where he explained, musically, his departure from Genesis.

They were all geniuses. Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. I enjoy both. Both badass motherfrickers. Really influenced my generation's music.

My ex gf loved Solsbury Hill. I hate her. Therefore, I hate you. Listening to Genesis (1983). Absolute masterpiece.
