Decent list but I would replace a few and add Dan the Automator, NuMark, and I know I'm forgetting someone.

9 & 10 could be changed out with a few different producers. No way I could make a Top 10 list without 1-8 tho

One of the things that I don't think people understand about good DJs/Producers is the level of musical knowledge these guys have. I mean, the original sound of NYC hiphop delved heavily into krautrock. Let that sink in for a bit: a bunch of brothers from NYC digging through album stacks, selecting crap like Can and Kraftwerk, then going home and listening to it.

Not only do good producers need to understand the mechanics of good music and have the technical skills to merge divergent elements into a unified whole, but they need an encyclopedic knowledge of music in order to find the source material.... assuming we're talking about sampling here.
