re: Arizona/PHX OTers: Hows your allergies there when compared to where you came from?

Never had a pest issue anyplace I've lived out here...and I've been in AZ almost 10 years.
Only seen a scorpion once...and it was dead on my inlaw's screen door. Mosquitos not really that big an issue here. Maybe a lil in the summer during monsoon season but nothing like in the South.
Really depends on where you live at. If you live in a brand new development that was just built in the middle of the desert...then yeah...you may see more scorpions, etc because the recent construction likely disrupted their habitat and they are looking for a new place to go. I have heard that if you do have a scorpion infestation in your house...that it is very difficult to get rid of them. As for snakes, etc...again just depends on where you live. You will obviously see more snakes, lizards, scorpions if you live close to the mountains out here. Live in a regular residential neighborhood...not really an issue. I've only seen snakes twice while hiking(one was a rattlesnakes). I'd say if you lived in the South, you have dealt with more "critters" than you would out here.
ETA: They do have roaches here...but nothing like the south. Last house we rented had a bunch of trees in the backyard....so we would see the occasional big tree roach on the back patio, but that was it.

People that have allergies and move here say they go away, people that don't have issues with allergies and then move here seem to get them. It is weird.

My aunt that just moved here from LA said her arthritis issues in her back have greatly improved since moving here. Her doctor agreed, saying moving to a low humidity climate like here is the best thing she could have done to help her arthritis.

Love it here, esp Scottsdale. Hands down Scottsdale is the best area to live near PHX.
You are welcome! Remember how much convincing it took to get you to leave the westside?

Does the dryness keep the roaches from being as prevalent? Are there a bunch of snakes, scorpions, tarantulas and shite?
If you live in the city you will see none, if you live out in the deserts you will get scorpions, snakes, coyotes, mountain lions etc.

Please, like I really needed to be convinced.
His family always makes fun of us living here. I don't tell them that I physically cringe every time we have to drive to the west side.

Ummmm you did! You kept saying it was too far from his family, too pricey etc. I should go find the old threads and FB messages. The westside is so gross, I can't believe you ever lived there!

It was North PHX though...that isn't that bad. I still lived on street vs an avenue. And the part of Phoenix that borders right by Scottsdale(ex tatum/shea area) isn't bad either. The part of Peoria that his parents live is in a decent pocket of area there as well.
Seems like that is one of the factors...do you live on an avenue or street. Ever notice all the crimes on the news...always on an avenue?

Called haboobs.
You must have kept under cover when those came through.

I was actually outside walking to my car right in the middle of one. It was just dusty and windy. Sky completely brown and you could barely see 10 feet in front of you. Was funny watching the birds that were trying to fly being tossed all crazy in the sky...like they were drunk or something.

I have lived here for 25 years of my life and seen 2 real haboobs, both in the last 5 years. 30 years ago the storms here were WAYYYYYY worse in the summer but no haboobs, just monsoons.

I am a big fan of North Central. If my wife and I were to move back, that would be the area we would target.
Scottsdale is nice (and where we stay whenever we visit) but I find it so spread out as opposed to North Central.

Yeah there are pockets of areas in PHX that are decent areas.
Well Scottsdale is it's own separate city vs a section of Phoenix like North Central. So of course it's gonna be more spread out.

Oh ya, fake titties are everywhere in Snobsdale!
Posted on 1/26/15 at 10:07 am to lsu480
Or Snottsdale as my inlaws call it.
They will travel out this way once a year for the railroad park for the Christmas train. Any other time and it's like we just asked them to drive to Sedona or something by coming out this way. We usually go out to eat for everyone's bdays throughout the year. This year I'm gonna ruffle feathers and for my bday...request we go to a restaurant by me.

I'm not dogging Scottsdale, it is a nice place.

No offense to your inlaws but you can tell someone is trashy if they hate on Scottsdale.
