Obviously when the books were written it was almost inconceivable that a British secret agent would not be white. This is no longer the case. There is absolutely nothing inherent to the Bond character that requires a white skinned actor in 2014.

Idris Elba is a suave tough dude and a badass actor. He may end up being the best Bond ever if he takes the job (and I'm a HUGE Connery fan). Elba is so perfect for the part, its crazy.

I dunno. I don't think it's important to have Bond be white--certainly not important enough to complain about a black Bond.

But he is a well established movie character by now. It might make more sense to expand the franchise and have Elba be James Bond's son. Pretty much anyone is believable as a son of Bond
