Total fact. Our salesmen always talk about how its hard to find a customer that will come in to a store in a good mood and excited to be spending a thousand dollars on something they get no pleasure out of.
The only customers who really get off on buying tires are Jeep owners and frat kids who are using daddy's credit card to put mud tires on their truck.

But the good part for the salesman is that there is no way to avoid buying tires. Unless you just keep getting new cars
