Rush was awesome. Styx had a couple of good songs (Tommy Shaw) but if I remember right were loved by chicks.
If you don't like Rush in their prime, then it's just not your kind of music.

Tommy Shaw is unbelievably talented. One of the best combo writer/vocal/guitar chops guys out there.
Roboto era stuff is unlistenable--go earlier for Prog. Styx, not Pop Styx.
And Rush is awesome. Probably a bit over your head though.
