Not 100% sure about how it is in Texas, but I'm guessing it's a normal police officer who is assigned to patrol a school. Here in Alabama they work traffic control during drop off and pick up hours and during the school day they stay on site and patrol the school doing everything from talking to kids caught stealing to making sure no nut jobs come in and try to pull off a mass shooting.

Within every school district here, they have their own department (ie. Spring Branch ISD police, Memorial Villages PD etc). They are small and for larger crimes, they'll call in HPD or the Sheriff's Office.
