quote:
I was there = north end zone in line with the east hash marks about 2/3 the way up. Me, my wife and 10 month old son, and my mom and dad.
Cannon ran straight toward us. At first it was hard to see what was happening, but by the time Cannon passed the 50 it was obvious he was going all the way.
The stadium was erupting. Some drunk from above us came tumbling down the stairs and got up yelling his head off - not a scratch on him.
The most anxious part of the game was holding the Rebels inside the 5 yd line for four plays to end the game.
The day before the game was the most excited I had ever seen the campus. You could hear "GO TO HELL OL MISS!!" all day and into the night. From the time the bus carrying the team arrived it was constant noise.
Truth be known, Ol Miss probably had the better team, but they tried to nurse a 3 pt lead for the whole game - punting on third down to make sure nothing bad happened on fourth. I thought that was dumb of them at the time, and it probably cost them the game.
But the Cannon run was special. I'll never forget that game.
Thanks for sharing ! I was hoping to see some posts like this !
